Will Piracy be the Downfall of the Music Industry?

These days, a simple download of one music album can be virtually shared by millions of people all over the globe. The advent of the World Wide Web ahs made it possible for anyone who has access to a computer to be able to share any kind of files and this extends to music as well, be it a single song or an entire album.

Younger generations of today who are completely internet savvy do not expect that they even have to pay to download music. Sure, there are popular sites like itunes where you can download a song for a minimal fee, but why settle for those when you can get it for free?

 

 

Piracy is a Great Blow to the Music Industry

Before, you had to buy CD’s or cassette tapes to be able to listen to music. If you do not have the budget for this, then you can just borrow from your friends and have a copied made. This did not affect the music industry as much because the amount of content that you could duplicate were only limited to what you peers can buy.

Now, numerous pirated CD’s have turned up in black markets everywhere wherein any kind of music can be made available at a cheap price. File sharing has become viral that because you do not have to spend a single cent to acquire the music that you want. Large sums of money have been lost due to the slow sales of music records because of piracy.

 

Fight Piracy Campaigns.

Campaigns for piracy is not only limited to the music industry but to other media as well. These days, the music industry is trying to pick up the pieces and be more competitive to beat piracy. Numerous anti piracy ads and campaigns are being promoted worldwide.

It would be too early to tell how the music industry could recover from such big losses due to the advent of viral and illegal downloads. Until then, the younger generation would continue to invent innovative download software for free music gains.
